The Miscellaneous Racers

1935 Hudson racer from Australia. This car began as a 1935 Hudson 8 cylinder. The racing body was fabricated and the engine highly modified. It won many road races and several hill climbs but the hill climbing resulted in both rear wheels bent and the spokes twisted from the torque. When the 1936 cars came out with artillery steel wheels and hydraulic brakes, these were installed. This car held the record for the road race from Sydney to Brisbane. After being retired for several years, the original mechanics bought the car and restored it to the present condition.

1937 Hudson Terraplane currently in Racing Museum at Bathurst NSW Australia.  This classic car first raced at Bathurst in 1956 and was built by Stan Carpenter and Ross Reid.  It has  a six cylinder engine and a Humber (English Car) gearbox.  It last raced in a Historic Car Meeting in 1989 and is currently owned by John Herman.

Butch Venderbeck's modified 1938 Street Rod.  It is claimed to be the fastest street rod in the USA.

1954 Jet Dragster in Don Garlits' Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, Florida.  It was formerly owned by Sloane McCauley of North Texas.

1954 Hornet Hollywood Hardtop.  This automobile was raced in Canada in the 60's winning 4 of the 6 dirt track races in which it was entered.  It was previously owned by Paul and Dorothy Tobler who restored it from the condition above to the condition on the right.  It was sold to an old Hudson dealer in South Carolina who was creating a private museum.
